Secrets to Soccer Training: 2 vs 1

thesoccertraining-blogimg-2vs1There are many team tactics and individual skills needed in order to play effective soccer. Soccer is very simple game in theory but well prepared teams need a lot of practice and soccer training.

Normally there are two main tactics used by the soccer teams. In possession soccer tactic the main aim of the team is to retain ball control as much as possible. That allows the players to make many passes with low risk of losing the ball. That tactic requires players with good skills in precise passing and ball control. Playing the possession soccer tactic on the field can tire the opposition team because they have to tackle and run more.

Among the secrets to soccer is another tactic called direct soccer. This tactic is associated often with counter attaching and long ball style. The players try to spend as little time as possible with the ball before passing and they use frequently only one or two touches.

No matter the tactics employed in the game, all the players need to be well trained in some specific passing combinations. Passing combinations offer many tactical possibilities of two against one defender, including the most basic one which is the give-and-go. This involves two teammates using two passes to get around a single defender. The player with the ball dribbles at the defender, passes to a teammate and then immediately receives a return pass.

A similar passing combination is also used in other team games such as lacrosse, field hockey, ice hockey, or basketball. This passing combination is also called the one-two, wall pass, or 2 vs. 1.

This specific passing combination is practical and effective. When properly performed it reduces the risk of losing the ball to a defender. When it is played against a last defender it can be an effective maneuver to get a clean shot before an attacking goal. The wall pass should be introduced early to any beginner soccer player.

The combination is fairly complicated and involves precision timing, good ball skills, knowledgeable thought, and fast decision making. The two teammates, the passer and the receiver, should work together and correctly perform their roles in order to be successful. Usually this passing combination is initiated by the receiver who recognizes a good opportunity and moves to the correct location to receive the pass.

A soccer coach who is working with beginner players needs to make sure that the players are used to passing and receiving in pairs and they are successful with one touch passing. In order to train players in practicing give-and-go a demonstration of the action should be done by 3 coaches or 2 coaches and a player assistant.

The most important things that must to be demonstrated are how close the dribbler should be to the defender in order to be sure the defender is engaged, how to pass the initial pass with the left foot if the receiver is to the right and using the right foot if the receiver is to the left, how the dribbler should run around the defender to the opposite side from the receiver, and how the receiver should be positioned properly to pass the ball back to the initial passer.

Possession Soccer in The Modern Era

Secrets to Soccer: Possession Soccer in The Modern Era

secrets_to_soccer_possession_soccerIrrespective of the formation a team plays, one of the biggest secrets to soccer is the ability to maintain possession of the ball for a prolonged period of time. This fact is based on the very simple notion that you can not concede a goal if you have the ball in the correct section of the playing field. Though it does happen in the field of play, it is very difficult for a team that consistently loses the ball to win a match convincingly.

Possession soccer usually concentrates on teaching players how to control the ball, how to make deft and accurate passes and how to dribble with intent and purpose across the field of play. In most instances, possession soccer is usually associated with attacking play that encompasses a great first touch and clear vision about what to do with the ball next.

To successfully play possession in soccer, the basic soccer principles such as good passing skills, proper and effective communication when with the ball, easy reading and opening up of angles of support when the team is with or without the ball and good dribbling skills must be entrenched in the training regimen. The fitness level of each and every player must be high as they tend to move a lot with the ball on their feet and will thus have the tendency to expend more energy when playing. A good target player must be able to hold the ball when in control and wait for his teammates to either make the runs or open up spaces in the opponents defense line; he or she needs to be patient and devoid of panic.

To play possession soccer, a coach needs to instill a high level of confidence into his players, ensure that they are mentally, physically and technically ready to play that kind of soccer. The soccer training sessions must be well planned, meticulously organized and all the tactics fully explored and practiced.

It is also worth noting though that the hallmark of possession in soccer is usually the ability of the team as a whole to not only maintain possession when they have the ball but also the speed at which they are able to regain possession when they lose the ball. This is usually achieved by ensuring the team members are always on the lookout for each other, covering those pockets of space in the midfield and at the back which their opponents may utilize. This is especially so because possession soccer is normally attack minded and there is usually a lot of overlapping and interchange of positions as the team moves forward.

Jürgen Klinsmann and Modern soccer game secrets

Secrets to Soccer Training: Jürgen Klinsmann and Modern soccer game secrets

Jurgen Klinsmann imageJürgen Klinsmann is the coach of the USA men national soccer team. He has an impressive history as a soccer player. Klinsmann also played for clubs such as Tottenham, Stuttgart, Munich, and Milan. He has marked many spectacular, innovative and acrobatic goals in his career as a soccer player. Nowadays he is pushing the USA soccer team to an ascendant position in the global game.

Klinsmann has done a good job on selecting those players with commitment and talent, able to perform well in the USA national team. Modern soccer is a very demanding game and requires high levels of athletic fitness. His strategy as a coach is based on an intensive training of the team. Three days before a soccer game he coach the team through a heavy training session, with good workout and small sided games. One day before the game they have a light training session. He also insists on the emotional balance of the players before each game.

Here is a video of Jürgen Klinsmann talks to the US Men National Team:

Klinsmann and his team prepare the tactics of each game based on the flip charts hanging in the locker room. The charts cover every aspect of the game: who’s in the wall, who runs out of the wall, who’s next to each other, the opponent’s corners, their team’s corners, the direct free kicks, and the set pieces. He requestes from his players to memorize the charts and know in advance the moving patterns. But Klinsmann confesses that he is not a great fan of any system. He believes that one of the secrets to soccer is to try to adapt a game strategy to the strengths of his players. His team has a proactive style, trying to dictate the pace and rhythm of the game.

The USA men national team under the leadership of the coach Jürgen Klinsmann has already secured it presence in Brazil, to the next year’s World Cup. That makes for a total of six consecutive qualifications of the US soccer team to the World Cup, in the last six years. The American national soccer team is now on the 13th ranking in the FIFA table. All these successes are great accomplishments under the direction of the coach Klinsmann.

The coach considers that in order to be successful in modern soccer a player should treat every practice with the same dedication he treats every game. The players should take practice seriously and make the most of every opportunity to train. Only by playing hard and smart in every practice and every training session a player can give the best of his ability. A player should be so committed to the game that he would always take his ball everywhere he goes. He should keep dribble and juggle everywhere, every single day. That is the best way to master the ball.

Klinsmann thinks that one of the secrets to soccer is to always challenge yourself to achieve more. The success and recognition from fans and teammates should not stop you asking more of yourself. You can become better, no matter how good you are. A player should also be open to learn for others. Anybody has something to teach you, older players, teammates, opponents, or your coach.

thesoccertraining-blogimg-midfilderThe secrets to soccer training require a player to understand his position and role precisely. The center midfielder is one of the most important ball players in the midfield of any soccer team. Their role must be divided in equal measure between defense and attack. Once the individual has possessed the ball, he or she needs to find a way of passing the ball to the team’s attacking forwards and midfielders. If the team is not in possession of the ball, they must help in defense by pressing the ball-carriers of the opposing team, taking up the best position before the defensive line of the team.

Secrets to soccer training have shown that the center midfielder also contributes to the offense of the team by running forward the penalty area of the opposition and even attempting to score. While on defense, they are expected to attempt clearances, interceptions and tackles.

Obviously, the center-midfield player should exhibit unique technical talent and ability but does not have to be equally fit as other positions. There are a number of aspects that define the role of the modern center-midfield player much better. Firstly, passing ability must be exceptional characterized by short ground passes and long balls on top of forwards’ heads or sending balls towards the corner flag so that wingers can make a run for them. The center midfielder must possess brilliant passing ability without which being effective in that role will almost be impossible.

Another role that defines this central midfield player is the ability to keep passing the ball and making a run in another area. It gives them access to more balls while keeping players from obvious overcrowding. It means they must always be in a good position to receive the ball from teammates, whether it is the winger unable to beat his marker or a forward whose back is to the goal post or defender clutching the ball.

The role of the center midfielder is to develop clear vision on the pitch, usually some of the secrets to soccer training everyone playing in the midfield must learn. Pre-Season Soccer Strategies & Training

Secrets to Soccer Training: Pre-Season Soccer Strategies & Training

secretstosoccer_preseason01Soccer is based on four pillars; understanding, support, belief and communication. In order to win, a team must incorporate every player and position to their best. Soccer is almost like a war as wars need good tactics and strategies to win. This article highlights the secrets to soccer training that would guarantee a win.

Soccer Formations:
There are basically three major styles of formations; 4-4-2, 5-4-1 (defensive formation) and 3-4-3 (offensive formation). Your formation should focus on maximizing the strengths of your team as well as exploiting the weaknesses of your opponents. The naming of positions in every formation is done depending on the mode of play. For example, a lone-attacking player can be referred to as a ‘striker’ or ‘center forward’ based on his role.

Offensive Strategies:
The offence is the best defense. In every soccer game, defenders and midfielders alike try to pass the soccer ball to strikers. Remember that piling strikers doesn’t translate to a goal as your opponents may exploit that opportunity to initiate a counter-attack. The offence should collaborate with the rest of your team. Counter attacks and passing are the best ways to take advantage of holes in the opponent’s defense. A good striker should not only be able to think faster but also have the ability to communicate well with his team. Most strikers often play selfish and make solo runs. This should be rectified promptly and strikers should understand that winning is a collective work of the team. Midfielders play an integral role in the offence since they have the highest ball possession. The offence of an optimum formation should consist of 5-6 players.

Defensive Strategies:
Defense in a soccer team acts as the wall between a goal and opponents. Defenders should be strong, agile and quick-thinkers; a split-second decision can have a great impact. But remember that everything is in the mind; for instance, a defender would be strong only if he believes so. The sight of a charged striker eyeing the goal is a bit ugly, but a defender must stand up for the team and offer his best performance. One of the soccer secrets is that defensive formation should focus on offering a strong cover for the goal as well as reducing weak passes or loose balls. In most cases, two defenders act as ‘full backs’ while the other two may play as defensive midfielders or wingbacks. This enhances a team’s flexibility and helps conform to any situation.
